After a battle that stretched on for more than six years that saw the club go into recess and without a home, a core group of parents has re-ignited the club and got it back on its feet.
Led by president Steve Potter, Eureka has found itself a new home at the former indoor tennis centre in Wendouree and is looking to become the biggest gymnastics club in
Ballarat.
YMCA Gymnastics Ballarat has been the only gymnastics club in the city.
“We’re in it for the fun of the sport, for the enjoyment of gymnastics,” Potter said.
“It’s a parent-run club. That’s why we’re so determined to get it going.
“It’s a not-for-profit organisation and we want to make gymnastics fun for people.”
There are currently nine members of the club, but Potter said it was hoped up to 100 people would join by the end of the year.
The club now takes up a small section of the former Dowling
Street tennis courts building.
It will hold an open day next month to try to attract people to the sport and the club.
A ‘come and try’ day will be held on Saturday, July 13, from 10am to 3pm, at 501 Dowling Street.
