However, the company also assured residents via Twitter all parcels would be collected and delivered as quickly as possible.
Three people were also lucky to escape serious injury after the Woodman's Hill accident.
The male driver, aged in his 40s, and two boys, aged 11 and 20 months, were able to escape from the B-double truck after the 2.40am accident, with the aid of a passer-by.
Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said the trio were cleared of any obvious injuries at the scene but were taken to Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital for further assessment.
The truck, loaded with parcels and paper, was believed to have been travelling from Pakenham to Adelaide.
The Western Freeway's westbound lane was closed at Woodman's Hill for several hours after the incident.
The load from the rear trailer was strewn all over the freeway just after the start of the Ballarat bypass, with about 15 Australia Post workers collecting it both manually and using a bobcat.
The truck's front passenger side window was shattered and steel from the trailer was also scattered all over the road.
Police diverted westbound traffic through Ballarat to the Midland Highway and then back onto the Western Freeway.
One lane Melbourne-bound was also blocked off as the load was collected and stored in large pallets.
