The Courier understands former Brisbane Lions-listed player Matt Tyler and ex-Lake Wendouree captain Tim Malone will pull on the yellow and black next season, joining close friend and former teammate Paul McMahon at Tigerland.
Tyler, a VFL premiership player with North Ballarat in 2010, arrives at Springbank after two years with home club Rupanyup in the Horsham District Football League.
The key backman was de-listed by the Lions at the end of the 2009 season after struggles with injury and not having played a fully-fledged AFL game, despite eight pre-season matches.
Tyler was drafted to the Lions from North Ballarat Rebels at pick 54 in the 2006 AFL national draft.
Malone’s recruitment is just as big for the Tigers, which are keen to top up in their deficiencies and add experience and leadership to aid a young group.
The midfielder/half back was best and fairest in the Lakers’ premiership season of 2010.
Malone was captain of the club this year, represented the Ballarat Football League at interleague level and was also selected in its team of the year.
The recruiting news comes after Springbank signed coach Sam Giblett for his third year at the helm.
Giblett, who joined the club from Redan, took the team to fifth this season, winning a final before bowing out at the hands of Buninyong in the semi-final.
