At only 17-years-old, St Patrick College student Tim Rennie is already making a big impact on the local fashion scene with his new label Broken Hands Apparel.
This week we caught up with the young fashion designer to have a chat about his new label.
Can you tell me a little bit about your clothing label?
The reason I started my own clothing label was because I’ve always had a thing for clothes. The first piece of clothing was produced at the start of 2013 and the look I was going for was a fresh street wear look, linked in with the music and skate scene.
What sort of clothing does Broken Hands Apparel feature?
At the moment we provide a few shirts, as well as the latest drop, our pom pom beanies which hit off during winter. This summer is when we will be releasing some new hats, including 5 panels and snapbacks and a few new shirts and singlets.
Where does your inspiration come from for your designs?
Brands like, thfkdlf, Color Collective, Drop The Anchor, Drop Dead and Hype have the whole underground street wear look that I am really into, so I try mix all of these together to get my ideas.
How much time goes into each design?
A lot of time and thought goes into our different products. I like to see what’s in and on demand and try make it so that Broken Hands has its impact on the initial product.
Tell us what your perfect outfit looks like?
Something along the lines of a nice pair of Nikes, skinny chinos topped off with a Broken Hands raglan tee and our soon to be released 5 panels.
What is the spring/summer fashion season bringing for men’s wardrobes?
A range of headwear, including 5 panels, snapbacks, a few tees like tall tees and standard fit tees and some singlets which are all in the slow but well thought out production stage.
Where do you hope to see your label go in the next five years?
I hope to see Broken Hands Apparel branch out and gain some more national and international followers and be a brand that is known and wanted.
