More than 50 teams from across Victoria will set upon Ballarat to battle out the prestigious Australian Futsal Association event, which will be contested over the next two Sundays.
Ballarat Futsal Club area manager Corey Smith said the championship was a pathway for youngsters to develop their talent in the sport, and the Ballarat Futsal Centre was proud to be hosting the event for the second time.
“The new stadium is the best Futsal specific venue in Victoria and has helped in us not only drawing interest locally but also from clubs wanting tours all across Australia,” Smith said. “This year we had enquiries from South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania and we believe in future years we will attract Australia’s top talent to Ballarat as momentum continues to build.”
Smith remains optimistic for Ballarat to be the strongest Futsal region in Australia, and the upcoming championship will help.
“We are a long way from that now but these types of events only help in progressing toward these goals,” he said.
