Now the young mum of Dimitrii, 11 months, just needs a professional helping hand to get her licence.
“I know there are a few things I do need to work on,” Shannen said.
So an RACV donation of 45-minute driving lessons to the Ballarat Secondary College Link-Up Young Parents Program has been timely.
“Having been given these vouchers is really good,” Shannen said.
The RACV has donated the lessons through its Good Citizen program, which has already helped about 20 community groups in Ballarat this financial year.
RACV retail shop manager Roger Henstridge said the program aimed to give back to the community.
“We think what is happening here is fantastic,” Mr Henstridge said.
The Young Parents Program founder Peter Innes said the RACV’s support was fantastic.
“When the girls get their hours up and they are ready to go for their licence, it’s important they have a professional driving instructor,” Mr Innes said.
“We’ve had between 25 and 30 girls get their licences now. It means the kids can become more and more independent.”
