The underdogs entered the match without captain Vinnie Cotronea and James McClounan, but raced to a 3-0 lead in the opening few minutes and held Eureka off for the remainder of the game to secure a 6-4 win.
Rookie-listed replacements Dominic Swinton and Santo Salvatore filled the void in the absence of the star duo, but it was Daniel Cook and Tyler Cameron who starred for Lucas with two goals apiece.
Eureka clawed its way back to a 4-2 deficit with 15 minutes remaining in the game before a frustrated Sean Harding was handed a red card for dissent, ending all chances of a comeback.
The night’s final match saw top placed Northern Fusion overcome a depleted line-up to defeat bottom of the ladder Eastern City Razorbacks, 6-3.
With English import Ryan Harker and youngster Brian Te missing from the Fusion squad, an upset was on the cards for the Razorbacks, who competed strongly in the opening minutes but couldn’t keep up the intensity beyond the first-half.
The first game of the night saw the Southern Strikers score a 7-2 victory over the Central Scorchers in a match that was scrappy from start to finish.
Some great finishing by Josh Antonelli and Michael Trigger set the early scene for the Strikers, who have moved into second position on the ladder and are now within a game of the top spot.
