Myer ambassador Lauren Phillips advised cup goers to let their personalities shine even if the sun wasn't.
Her advice was heeded.
Despite the cold and rain, there was no dampening the spirits of fashionistas.
Walking a fine line between warmth and style was the aim of the day, with flower crowns and fascinators accessorised with coats and boots.
Warrnambool's Elise Wight said she was wearing thermals under her outfit with snow boots on her feet.
One guy came dressed as a banana, but at least he was warm.
Ms Phillips said this season was all about bold graphic prints, plenty of black and white and strong colours, but soft pastel prints were also popular and perfect for spring.
For men, there was also a move away from black suits to blue.
Preparation was the key, but so was looking at the weather forecast, the Melbourne model and television presenter said.
"If it's wet you want something that's going to hold up in the rain," she said.
"We're seeing so many printed blazers and lots of flower crown, lots of fresh flowers as well. There were a lot of people at Flemmington where florists did their arrangements."
Ms Phillips was wearing a colourful Leona by Leona Edminston dress, with a flower crown and closed shoes.
