It is an issue that confronts thousands of women across our nation every day.
This year there will be many opportunities to swear the non-violence oath and to sign Ballarat City Council's Community Charter for the Prevention of Violence against Women.
Last week the Ballarat White Ribbon Day Launch Breakfast was held at Oscar's Hotel and featured the swearing in of the 2013 senior White Ribbon ambassadors and guest speaker, prominent Detective Senior Constable Ron Iddles.
The Ballarat community can show its support for White Ribbon Day today by swearing an oath of non-violence at a special ceremony at 10.30am. The swearing of the oath will be followed by morning tea. For more information contact the council on 5320 5183.
You can also sign the Ballarat City Council's Community Charter for the Prevention of Violence against Women today.
The charter will be available for signing at Central Square between 10am and 3pm, or at Alfred Deakin Place between 10.30 am and 11.30am.
Other support for White Ribbon Day can be made by buying ribbons and bands at the Town Hall and Council's Customer Service Centre, The Phoenix, 25 Armstrong Street South during November.
