GEELONG Road has been closed in both directions between Damascus College and the University of Ballarat after a man crashed his van into a tree this afternoon.

The sole occupant of the Toyota Hiace van was travelling south on Geelong Road near Greenhills Road when his car left the road and hit a tree about 3.45pm.
The man has been taken to the Ballarat Base Hospital and is in a stable condition.
