About 200 people gathered at Hammon Park to listen to the 25-piece Creswick Brass Band and the Ballarat Salvation Army Community Church choir.
The solid turn-up ensured it was unlikely to be the last.
“It is the first time we’ve had carols by candlelight in Creswick for quite a few years,” carols director Jason White said.
“We will run it again next year and we’re hoping, now people have had a taste for it, we could build on those numbers.”
Santa also made an appearance, catching a ride with a Creswick CFA fire truck.
The event was supported by the Creswick and District Community Bank.
