Dinsley possesses an extensive criminal history, including more than 100 prior convictions, some dating back to 1996 when he was a young teenager.
At the time of killing single mother Sharon Siermans, Dinsley had more than a year left on his parole after being released from a seven year sentence for the rape of a 52-year-old woman in 2006.
A plea hearing in the Supreme Court yesterday heard Dinsley’s father was himself in prison at the time of his son’s birth.
The court heard Dinsley’s father, who according to Dinsley was involved with the Hells Angels outlaw motorcycle club, remains in jail after he too took someone’s life.
Jon Irwin, for Dinsley, said his client’s father had been a violent man who used drugs and alcohol, similarly to his son who the court heard has battled a heroin addiction since the age of 14.
Mr Irwin said Dinsley had lived in refuge style and “street type” accommodation since the age of 13 and had always felt unwanted and alone.
A serious sex offender, Dinsley has two prior convictions for rape as well as countless convictions for theft, burglary and drug offences.
