The Ballarat boys romped to a seven-wicket win over a team from the Grampians Cricket Association to win the under-17 regional championship at Wendouree Oval.

Sunday’s triumph was set-up by the bowlers, with Ben Landwehr and leg-spinner Billy Hoye both taking four wickets each to roll the Grampians for just 54 runs.

The run-chase appeared an easy one, and despite Ballarat slipping to 3-11 early, it proved just that as a partnership between Nick Spark (25) and Ben Lusby (25) carried the team across the line.

Ballarat continued batting after passing the total and was 5-95 when stumps were pulled.

Blue is the younger under-16 Ballarat Cricket Association team, coached by Peter Le Lievre.
