However, the drizzling rain that many residents woke to yesterday morning won’t be sticking around for too long.
Weatherzone meteorologist Rob Sharpe said he expected it to get gradually warmer over the next week.
“The conditions will dry up further next week,” he said.
“There is a small chance of rain tomorrow.”
The pressure system which was the cause of the rain had already begun moving south of Ballarat in the early afternoon yesterday.
Mr Sharpe said by 9am yesterday morning Ballarat had already received 18 millimetres of rain with another four falling by 12pm.
Luckily for residents the rain has begun to clear up, with Mr Sharpe saying we could experience temperatures just below 30 degrees early next week.
As Ballarat gears up for a long and cold winter, drivers are being urged to be careful on the roads.
On Wednesday night one resident lost control of his vehicle, which rolled down an embankment on the corner Chisholm and Lufven streets in Black Hill.
The owner was on scene yesterday as the vehicle was hoisted up the 10-metre drop.
The man, who did not want to be named, told The Courier he had simply lost control of the vehicle in drizzling weather about 9pm last night.
However, he managed to escape the accident with no injuries.
In an incident unrelated to the weather, police attended an accident in Delacombe where a skip bin dislodged from the back of a truck.
The incident occurred just before noon, with parts of the Latrobe Street and Wiltshire Lane intersection closed to vehicles.
A clean-up was under way yesterday afternoon with police saying they believed the incident was the result of a mechanical malfunction.
