Dennis Basic, 34, was one of nine men linked to outlaw bikie clubs arrested last October after a string of shootings and fire-bombings in the city's south-eastern suburbs and the Mornington Peninsula.

The attacks were part of a simmering feud between several bikie gangs following the shooting of former Bandidos enforcer Toby Mitchell at a Melton industrial estate in March last year.

Mr Basic was refused bail at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday, and faces 30 charges relating to firearms, drugs and violence, and manufacturing or storing improvised explosive devices.

Anti-bikie detectives from Echo Taskforce have charged Mr Basic over a string of attacks between May and September last year.

The attacks included a fire-bombing of the Bandidos' Dandenong clubhouse, attempted bombings at a gym and tattoo parlour owned by Comancheros in Hallam, and a blast that blew up a four-wheel-drive parked outside a former associate's home in Narre Warren.

Mr Basic, who was living in a caravan park at Langwarrin last year, was placed behind bars after police raided his small cabin.

Detective Leading Senior Constable Glen Hatton said officers seized an arsenal of weapons including a bolt-action rifle, a sawn-off pump-action shotgun, a .22-calibre revolver, a .32-calibre revolver and ammunition.

They also allegedly found ammonium nitrate-based explosives materials, detonators and fuse wires.

Fairfax Media understands Mr Basic had fallen out with the Comancheros after trying to form his own motorcycle gang, called "Mayhem", in Dandenong two years ago. Comancheros' ex-president Jay Malkoun is believed to have threatened the new club and stripped them of club colours, according to a police source.

Mr Basic was later sponsored by the Hells Angels, in what the source described as a "mad recruitment drive" to boost numbers on the Mornington Peninsula.

Mr Basic's alleged attempted attacks on Hallam's Nitro Gym and Nitro tattoo parlour, owned by Comancheros boss Mick Murray, were met with immediate retaliation when the Comancheros shot up the Hells Angels' Darkside clubhouse in Seaford the next night.

Nick Papas, SC, for Mr Basic, argued his client should be bailed because there would likely be a lengthy delay of up to 20 months until a County Court trial date could be set, and he wanted to see his children aged 7 and 9.

A friend of Mr Basic's also offered a $200,000 surety, and said he would employ Mr Basic as a labourer at his northern suburbs plumbing business.

But the prosecution opposed bail saying Mr Basic was an unacceptable risk.

The Hells Angels also have a Thomastown chapter, which Mr Basic risked associating with, the court heard.

Mr Basic will appear for a County Court directions hearing on Tuesday morning.
