A woman who thought she had successfully dodged police in a high-speed car chase admitted defeat after receiving a text message from the officers that urged her to hand herself in.

St Kilda police texted the 22-year-old Reservoir woman after she failed to stop during a car chase on St Kilda Road just after 1am on Tuesday.
The chase was called off after the woman allegedly drove through a red light, but the officers were not willing to give up.
The woman has since been charged with reckless conduct endangering persons, evading police, driving in a dangerous manner and at dangerous speed, and other traffic offences.
Victoria Police spokeswoman Kelly Yates said sending text messages was not a new way of catching people.
‘‘I’ve seen it done before, and it’s just an alternative to knocking on doors,’’ she said.
It is believed police tracked down the driver’s mobile phone number through her car registration.
Asked what was in the text message, the spokeswoman said she ‘‘did not have that level of detail’’.
The driver has been bailed by police, and is expected to appear the the Melbourne Magistrates Court on July 10.
