Police warn drivers to stick to speed limit as school goes back

Drivers are being reminded speed limits around schools will revert to 40 kilometres an hour from today.

Police will be out in force ensuring drivers stick to the rules and obey the limits during the busy drop-off and pick-up times.

Leading Senior Constable Shaun Martin said it was important drivers were not still in holiday mode and paid attention to the change in speed.

“People should be used to it by now,” he said

“At the end of the day, it is common sense.”

Senior Constable Martin said there would be zero tolerance for people caught speeding in the zones and committing other offences like double parking.

He said it was important drivers realised there were a number of areas of Ballarat where the lower speed limit applied all the time.

The speed limit applies in other areas from 8am and runs through until 9.30am. with another period after school between 2.30pm and 4pm.

School returns today.
