The reigning Australian Super Gas champion, Forbes and his Lucas Oil Products 27 Ford Roadster were unbeatable over four rounds of racing.
Forbes secured the event win and one of drag racing’s prized gold Christmas Tree trophies by downing former champ, Queensland’s David Gauldie in a close final round.
Forbes covered the quarter-mile almost right on the Super Gas class’s index, with a 9.91-second pass, while Gauldie’s 9.89-second run was too quick for the 9.90-second index.
“It was a fantastic weekend, you’ll take those every time,” Forbes said. “When you work hard and meticulously prepare everything you shouldn’t be surprised, but things don’t always work out the way you want.
“To come home to Ballarat with another win and another ANDRA Christmas Tree is very satisfying.”
Forbes earned 100 points in the Australian National Drag Racing Association’s Aeroflow Series title chase and now has the maximum of 240 points from the four events he has contested, 80 ahead of his nearest rival.
“The first three events we attended at Portland, Adelaide and Calder Park were all weather-affected and weren’t completed, but we were still ‘in’ when they were called,” he said.
“In fact, we haven’t lost a round of racing since last September, so I’m comfortable with where we are placed in the championship.”
Forbes’ next event will be at Calder Park later this month, but he will skip next month’s Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway, in Queensland.
The national championship series culminates with the ANDRA Grand Finals at Calder Park in November.
