Tippett will miss Saturday's game at the SCG due to inflammation in his left knee, which he had operated on last month, but the Swans are aiming to have him back after their bye to take on reigning premiers Hawthorn.

"He's got a little bit of bone inflammation which is the reason why he's still a bit sore," said Sydney coach John Longmire, whose team is aiming to equal the feats of the Swans sides of 1918, 1933 and 1935 by winning 12 consecutive games.

"He's not going to play this week and we're hopeful to get him after the bye."

Tippett made the trip to Perth last week but was a late withdrawal after experiencing soreness at training.

It is another setback for Tippett, who has struggled for continuity in his game since his controversial multi-million dollar switch to Sydney at the end of 2012.

Tippett has managed only 17 of a possible 40 games for the Swans due to a combination of suspension and injury. This year he had knee tendonitis in his right knee, which prevented him from playing until round eight, and now problems in his other knee.

Tippett, however, has delivered in spades in his rare appearances. He managed 12 goals in the three games leading up to the game against Gold Coast when he broke down and was the club's leading goalkicker last year despite missing half the season.

"I'm sure he's disappointed, and wants to keep playing, as we are. We get him going, and think he really contributes," Longmire said.

"He's a very important player for us."

Premiership duo Rhyce Shaw and Dan Hannebery will not play until after the bye at the earliest, Longmire said, while youngster Zak Jones will be monitored after being concussed on Sunday but is expected to be available for selection.
