NPLV soccer match called off early after player knocked out

THE National Premier Leagues Victoria match between Ballarat Red Devils and Pascoe Vale in Ballarat on Saturday has been called off early after a player was knocked out.

Officials called time after Pascoe Vale striker Luca Santilli came off second-best in a head clash and was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

The Reds were leading 2-0 at the 67-minute mark.

Santilli was the second Pascoe Vale player stretchered off in the second-half, with goalkeeper Stefaan Sardelic suffering a suspected broken leg less than 10 minutes prior after a heavy contest with Ballarat's Liam Harding.

The outcome of the match was met with raw emotion from both sides, culminating in a verbal stoush between Pascoe Vale coach Vitale Ferrante and Red Devils officials just moments after play was cancelled.

Red Devils officials are waiting on a referee report to determine the outcome of the match, but expect it to be called abandoned and played at a later date.

Ballarat Red Devils goalkeeper Aaron Romein watches on as Paul Harvey clears the ball off the line at Morshead Park on Saturday.
