But recently I was intrigued when Andrew Bolt, Rupert Murdoch and Tony Abbott's mouthpiece in the press, described Malcolm Fraser as a 'leftie'.
Surely this could not be the same Malcolm Fraser, the Liberal prime minister who presided over the dismissal of Gough Whitlam.
This surprising description of Malcolm Fraser caused me to read a 2014 book written by him called Dangerous Allies.
All became clear; this book is one of the most important books I have ever read and should be mandatory reading for all students, voters and anyone with any interest in recent and contemporary Australian history.
The precise research and analysis provides an understanding of where we have been, the mistakes we have made and an essential 'blueprint' for the future of Australia.
It contains many inconvenient 'truths' which Murdoch and Abbott would be frantic to bury or discredit by 'bagging' the author.
But for anyone who cares about a sensible vision for the future of Australia, this is essential reading.
