A DRUNKEN and aggressive Ballarat woman left Regent Cinema staff members battered and bruised when she assaulted them after they asked her to leave a recent concert, a court has heard.

Jacquelin Loveless, 23, had been at the Pete Murray concert at the cinema on March 13 when she and friend were asked to leave by management due to their drunken behaviour. Ballarat Magistrates Court on Tuesday heard Loveless initially punched a female staff member three times in the face before turning on other staff members who had gone to the aid of their colleague.

Police prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Gerard Barrow said Loveless, who had already fallen down once,

fell again before getting up and continuing to assault staff.

The court heard Loveless then stole a manager’s walkie talkie and used it to assault him.

Finally leaving, she returned to the cinema shortly after and threw the walkie talkie at staff members standing outside the venue.

Loveless pleaded guilty to recklessly causing injury, unlawful assault, criminal damage and behaving in an offensive manner in a public place.

Jeremy Harper, for Loveless, said his client regretted her behaviour on the night, which was fuelled by her drinking alcohol before and during the concert.

Mr Harper said Loveless was upset by her actions, adding she was “a big Pete Murray fan”.

Magistrate Clive Alsop said it was a “disgraceful” way to behave in public, but said the “appalling” behaviour didn’t warrant jail time due her lack of criminal history and young age.

Mr Alsop ordered Loveless be assessed for a community corrections order.
