Charles Stewart and Co agent and auctioneer Tom Madden is the new president of the association in Ballarat.
The 27-year-old was elected unopposed late last month and will hold the position for two years. He is the association's youngest president in more than a decade.
Mr Madden said the proposed move of the Ballarat Saleyards to Miners Rest would be a key priority during the first part of his term as president.
"We need to have continued contact with (saleyard developer) Regional Infrastructure and the City of Ballarat with regard to planning to ensure, if and when it goes ahead, there is an effective and efficient transition," Mr Madden said.
"The important thing is to make sure everything is right with the saleyard proposal, to help continue growing business in Ballarat and to maintain the saleyards as one of the major selling centres in the state."
Mr Madden has been a member of the Ballarat Stock and Station Agents Association for eight years, and his father Mick Madden is a former president of the group.
Immediate past president Gerry White of TB White and Sons, and former president Bernie Nevins (HF Richardson) were last month appointed vice presidents for the next 24 months.
Mr White and Mr Nevins will also remain on the Ballarat Saleyards advisory committee.
"There is plenty of guidance and experience there," Mr Madden said.
"The association makes decisions as an association. It is not the president making all the decisions.
"It will be a smooth transition. I don't expect there will be an enormous changes in how things are run."
The BSSAA represents six agencies: Elders Rural Services, Landmark, TB White and Sons, Crawford Dowling, Charles Stewart and Co, and HF Richardson.
