TALL marking goal-kicker Gus Grigg has been called up to face Port Melbourne.

North Ballarat Roosters add Grigg on the back of his 11-goal haul for Cohuna in the Central Murray Football League on Saturday.

Grigg has booted 21 goals the past three rounds.

He will be put to the test when the Selkirk Roosters tackle the Victorian Football League ladder leader at North Port Oval, one game out from finals, this week.

The Roosters are also bolstered by the return of hard midfielder Nick Couch, who was sidelined last week with knee soreness, and relentless defender Luke Kiel (ribs).

Lake Wendouree’s Ash Simpson, who is back playing after a prolonged ankle injury, will play as the Roosters’ 23rd man.

Injuries stemming from the Roosters’ 13-point loss to Williamstown have taken a toll.

North Melbourne-listed defender Joel Tippett (knee) and Roosters’ onballer Nick Rippon (calf) will be rested.

Defensive forward James Keeble, who sustained a hamstring injury in the first quarter, is likely be sidelined for at least three weeks and miss the start of finals.

The Roosters are still monitoring defender Oli Tate (hamstring) and are hopeful he will be available for finals.

North Ballarat is preparing to play its first VFL finals series since 2011.

The Roosters locked in a spot when other results fell their way last week but a tight ladder means they must still wait to learn their first assignment.

This week offers the Roosters a big taste of what to expect.

Competition leader Port Melbourne has only lost two games this season and are notoriously tough on their home ground, where most finals will be played.
