IT IS very disappointing to see that Ballarat City Council has decided to close the Black Hill Swimming Pool, rather than invest in its continued operation.

Our councillors can always find money for something new, like the pool under construction at the aquatic centre, but their primary responsibility is to maintain existing facilities.
Not as glamorous perhaps, and the mayor can't get his name on a plaque, but commonsense.
Instead, the council will have to spend a considerable sum on decommissioning the pool and will then be left with a considerable area of undeveloped parkland.
No doubt more money will need to be spent to develop something new on this site that the council can claim credit for.
Meanwhile in the north, we will have lost our pool. Let's get this one back on council's agenda and get a sensible outcome this time.
