Students will participate in Run Ballarat, a fun walk or run around Ballarat that raises money for the redevelopment of the children’s ward.
Ambassadors Steve Moneghetti and Tracie Kaye spoke to students at Ballarat High School and St Patrick’s College yesterday about getting behind the event.
Mr Moneghetti has been ambassador since its inception three years ago, with Ms Kaye wearing the title for the first time this year.
Mr Moneghetti encouraged students to challenge themselves.
“If they’ve run six kilometres before, why not try and go faster or the further distance,” he said.
“We don’t have a big long run in Ballarat, but this run is ours and you don’t have to go anywhere for it.”
Ms Kaye said six kilometres was a challenge for a lot of people, but everyone could do it if they trained.
High School community development leader Grant Luscombe said Run Ballarat would be one of the school’s main fundraisers for the year.
Year 11 students Amy McDonald and Ged Shearer, who both had basketball commitments on the day of the event last year, are making sure they get involved this year.
The pair hope at least 150 students from Ballarat High School sign up for the event.
Run Ballarat will be held on October 19.
