Police investigating an assault in Melbourne from nine months ago that seriously injured a man have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Investigators were told there was a fight in a carpark off Raleigh Road in Maribyrnong in the city's west on January 11 at 1.30am.
Police said several people were involved and a New Gisborne man, 28, was punched to the back of the head. The punch rendered him unconscious and he suffered serious injuries.
Detectives have been told a man known as "Simon" from the Macedon Ranges area could help with their inquiries.
