Club officials are urging the Ballarat public to try their hand at touch before the pre-season competition starts on October 8.
“It’s a great summer sport and one of the most participated sports in Australia,” BTFA vice-president Tim Booth said.
“Competition runs through until early March, with 26 teams from A grade to social C grade.
“Victoria, not being traditionally affiliated with rugby league or union, is probably lesser known for it than some of the northern states.”
The pre-season competition will run for three weeks before the home and away round starts on October 29.
This season will also see the BTFA implement a ‘Tiny Touch’ competition for children 12 years of age or under.
President Tim Cromb said the sport was family friendly.
“It’s a great way for mum and dad to be able to come down and play Wednesday night games and have the kids play in the same 6pm time-slots,” Cromb said.
“Anyone that would be interested in trying a new sport should give it a go.”
