In a shock development, the former AFL star has been appointed as Chris Kennedy’s successor and will join Drew Barnes as co-coach at J.C. Lowe Oval next season.
“It’s really exciting,” Fevola told The Border Mail.
“I never wanted to leave.
“Yarra has given me so much over the past three years.
“I could have gone elsewhere but it just wouldn’t have felt right.
“I can’t wait to get into it.”
Fevola, 33, had been widely tipped to move on this summer after three stunning seasons with the Pigeons.
The two-time Coleman medallist had been sought out by several other clubs across the state in recent weeks, with a handful of Melbourne-based clubs leading the charge.
Fevola officially put his hat in the Pigeons’ coaching ring when he told The Border Mail in July he’d “love” to replace Kennedy at the helm following his announcement he would be stepping down from the job.
Yarrawonga officials met with Fevola on several occasions to discuss the vacant position before the club officially signed off on the move late last night.
Fevola has booted 298 goals in his 52 games with the Pigeons to date.
