Veterinary surgeons and the Kris Lees stable worked night and day to present Lucia Valentina at Flemington and their work was rewarded in spades when the four-year-old not only comfortably won Saturday's group 1 Turnbull Stakes but the ease of her victory prompted Caulfield Cup bookmakers to slash her price from $13 into a clear cut $5 favourite.

"It's been a long week," Lees said. "We had our concerns but I knew in the last 24 hours the bruising in the leg was coming good but it was nice to have her ticked off at Flemington in the final inspection.

"We'll sit down now and aim for the Caulfield Cup – I couldn't have her in better order."

However, Caulfield Cup trials from other Turnbull competitors such as The Offer as well as imports Lidari and Brambles put all very much in contention.

Green Moon, the 2012 Melbourne Cup winner, finished well back in a performance completely out of character for the brave stayer.

Puissance de Lune battled on well to finish close up in a solid Caulfield Cup trial.

Cox Plate hopeful Happy Trails never got out with rider Michael Rodd admitting that he "ran into a brick wall" in the closing stages.

However in Sydney Chris Waller showed why he's now one of Australia's most respected horsemen when he made a clean sweep of major races on the Randwick program.

In fact, Waller quinellaed the group 1 Epsom Handicap as well as the Metropolitan and he looks now primed to take the Melbourne spring carnival by storm.

Waller was successful also with Moriarty in the group 3 Craven Plate and that horse could well be in Melbourne for Saturday week's Caulfield Cup.

"Why not run him. We've got so many internationals there and he's such a great trier I think he'll run," he said.

Royal Descent, who finished millimetres away in second place in the Epsom, lost no admirers with her second behind stablemate He's Your Man.

"I think Royal Descent will come down for the Caulfield Cup and He's Your Man I'm not sure about," Waller said.

"I'm very tempted to take on a race like the Mackinnon Stakes. He's very clean winded and has raced well when given a break in the past.

"And Royal Descent, what more can you say? She gave everything and was just narrowly beaten."

Just an hour and a half later Waller prepared Junoob to win the Metropolitan defeating another of Waller's team, Opinion, in a desperately tight finish.

They too will head to Melbourne, but Waller was not sure exactly what path they would take.

And, arguably the world's finest jockey Joao Moreira was the star turn at Randwick scooping up a winning treble which included a brilliant ride on He's Your Man.

Moreira will fly back to Hong Kong, where the Brazilian jockey is now based, to take 10 rides at the Sha Tin meeting on Sunday.
