Despite lower competitor numbers than previous years when the event was not in Australia, FISA Masters Commission chairman Tone Pahle said the atmosphere at Lake Wendouree perfectly suited the five-day regatta.
The event wrapped up with the final 34 races on Saturday in perfect conditions.
“It’s been a highly competitive regatta and the atmosphere surrounding this event is everything we look for in a World Masters so we could not be happier with how the whole event has gone,” Pahle said.
“It’s been a wonderful event and fantastic to see so many Masters rowers out competing here in Ballarat.”
Pahle’s thoughts were echoed by those of Rowing Australia general manager of events Jo Verden, who said Ballarat had proved itself as an outstanding destination for rowing.
Verden said although the national titles were set to stay in Sydney for at least the next three years, Ballarat had shown it was more than capable of hosting such events.
“We can now look at Ballarat and its facilities and know it’s of a high standard that it can host such big events,” she said.
“People will go away from the event happy, they’ve had a terrific experience in Ballarat – that’s what matters.”
The 2015 masters will be in Hazewinkel, Belgium.
