RECYCLE and reuse is the focus of the Garage Sale Trail.

The national sustainability event encourages people to sell items they don’t use or need as the next person may find a use for it.

There are 17 garage sales registered for the event in the region – 11 are in the Ballarat, Buninyong and Creswick areas.

Wendouree Neighbourhood Centre has added its name to the list, and expects to have 23 tables with items for sale.

Members of the community and groups registered with the centre will set up stalls, including a craft group and the Wendouree Men’s Shed.

Individuals will also put out bric-a-brac, and the centre will sell thousands of donated second-hand books.

Centre manager Manya Ferwerda said she hoped to host a community garage sale – and the Garage Sale Trail gave the perfect opportunity.

She said the men’s shed would also host a sausage sizzle with tea and coffee.

“It has also been a good opportunity for people wanting to sell a few items but didn’t want to hold a garage sale at their home,” Ms Ferwerda said.

Garage Sale Trail co-founder Andrew Valder said the event provided people with an opportunity to buy and sell goods while having fun. “It makes the purchase more interesting and buyers then add their own history to the piece,” he said.

Shoppers can map out sales they would like to visit by creating a Treasure Trail at www.garagesaletrail.com.au
