Timothy Cakebread, 22, was arrested after crashing into a fence in Sebastopol on October 15.
Cakebread, who appeared at Ballarat Magistrates Court on Thursday with no legal representation, was charged with 24 offences, including six counts of reckless conduct endanger serious injury, resist police, fail to stop after an incident and dangerous driving while pursued by police.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Ivan Blomeley told the court Cakebread reversed into a police car when officers got out of their vehicle to arrest the offender in Charles-Scorer Court, Magpie, after a police pursuit. Cakebread, who was driving a white Holden Commodore sedan, then sped away, evading a number of police vehicles.
The court heard police terminated the pursuit, in which the vehicle was alleged to have reached speeds of 110km/h in a built-up area, at the intersection of Albert and Docrwa streets, Sebastopol.
Cakebread later crashed into a picket fence outside a Sebastopol home and resisted arrest after being found hiding in a neighbouring property's laundry.
Cakebread, who was also charged with five counts of theft and two counts of burglary, allegedly entered Karrington Jewellers in Sturt Street with co-accused Tyra Carter, 20, on October 14 and stole a diamond ring valued at $8500.
The pair was also accused of stealing goods valued at $500 from Kmart at Stockland Wendouree and two petrol station drive-offs on the same day.
Cakebread did not enter a plea or apply for bail and was remanded by magistrate Michelle Hodgson to reappear at Ballarat Magistrates Court on November 2. Co-accused Carter appeared briefly in court, where his lawyer argued her client was present during the alleged thefts but was not responsible.
Carter's case was adjourned to October 30 for a case conference and his lawyer did not apply for bail.
