The Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute will hold its eighth Ballarat Cycle Classic next year.
For the first time, residents will be able to participate in the Lap of the Lake Celebration Walk around Lake Wendouree.
Avid cyclists will still be able to compete in the seven cycling events held on February 15.
FECRI events manager Nicole Bartlett hoped the new category led to more registrations.
“We wanted to incorporate a walk for people who may not want to cycle,” Ms Bartlett
said.
“What we have found in the past is that some riders will go on the ride, but their family members are left waiting for them.”
Registrations are now open in the Lake Relay, 50-kilometre, 60km, 85km and 100km cycling categories.
Cyclists can also participate in the 25km and 50km mountain bike event. About $1 million has been raised for cancer research since the event began.
Last year, about 1600 participants helped FECRI raised $213,600 for cancer research.
