Frankston claimed the points in the “bush bash” round by restricting Geelong to 144 in defence of 8-179.
While it was a day for Frankston to remember, the same could not be said for Finch in a rare appearance for the Cats colours.
He faced just two balls before losing his wicket for one run.
Finch’s dismissal gave Frankston major impetus, but Geelong managed to turn this around through the work of Hayden Butterworth and Eamonn Vine. They put Geelong back in control, adding 85 for the second wicket to be comfortably ahead of the required run rate.
The loss of Vines, 31 off 47 balls, and Butterworth, 52 off 84 balls, in the space of 11 runs signalled the beginning of the end for Geelong.
The innings lost momentum and Geelong ultimately lost its last five wickets for 12 – the last four for four runs.
Jake Wood took season-best figures of 3-20, while Dale T Elmi finished with 3-29.
Earlier in the day, Luke Walker top scored for Frankston with 49 off 93 balls.
Paul Borrington contributed 34 before being trapped in front by Finch.
Frankston’s middle order struggled as it lost 3-27 before Walker and Dale Elmi added 54 for the fifth wicket.
