TMZ reports "Mama" June Shannon has reconnected with an ex-boyfriend who was recently released from prison after serving 10 years for "forcing a girl to perform oral sex on him".

The 34-year-old mother of four has denied being in a relationship with the man despite being photographed together in a hotel room soon after she split from her husband, Michael "Sugar Bear" Thompson in September.

The girl at the centre of the case is allegedly June's eldest daughter, Anna Cardwell, who was molested when she was 8.

Cardwell, who is now 20 and married with a young child, is known as "Chickadee" on the family's reality show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.

The show, which follows the lives of 9-year-old Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson, her three sisters and wider family, has recently finished filming its fifth season. The show has since been cancelled by US network, TLC, following the news of Shannon's alleged relationship.

"Supporting the health and welfare of these remarkable children is our only priority," a network representative told the Associated Press.

TLC is now reportedly offering counselling or tutoring services to the child stars.

"The statement of me dating a sex offender is totally untrue. Pumpkin [Shannon's 14-year-old daughter] has openly said I am not dating him and also his son. I would not ever, ever, ever put my kids in danger. I love my kids too much, that is my past. I have not seen that person in 10 years," Shannon said in a video statement posted to Alana's official Facebook page.

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo was a spin off series of another reality program, Toddlers & Tiaras, where Alana first made international headlines as a self-assured, hyperactive aspiring beauty queen.

Both shows were never far from controversy.

A scene featuring Honey Boo Boo drinking her pre-pageant drink, something she called her "go go juice", which consisted of a mixture of Red Bull and Mountain Dew and contained more caffeine than two cups of coffee, caused outrage.

"There are normal people who give their kids this. Why is it such a big issue with us pageant mums that do it all weekend to keep our kids energised and awake? There are far worse things. I could be giving her alcohol," Shannon said at the time.
