Following Monday morning’s second acceptances, the Darren Weir-trained stayer is now 30th in the order of entry for the race on November 4.
Racing Victoria’s executive general manager of racing Greg Carpenter said it was unlikely Prince of Penzance would make the 24-horse Melbourne Cup field, but is now eligible for a $100,000 bonus should he win the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, 2600m, on November 8.
This is the obvious target for the horse should he not gain a Melbourne Cup start.
Prince of Penzance’s stablemate Signoff will run in this Saturday’s Lexus Stakes, 2500m, in an attempt to make the Melbourne Cup field.
The winner of this race is granted a start in the Melbourne Cup, providing the horse is among the updated list of 40 second acceptors.
Signoff is currently in 37th position on the Melbourne Cup order of entry.
