The event, spanning three days, attracted about 10,000 spectators, with about 700 volunteers helping the competition run smoothly.
Event director Adam Renn said Ballarat turned on its community spirit to host the weekend.
“We thought we’d have more challenges with the weather, but it worked really well,” Mr Renn said.
“The athletes were surprised by how great the lake was to swim in, the cyclists did encounter a bit of wind but got through, and the run had so many supporters.
“Everyone crossed the finish line with a smile on their face.”
Five events were held, including a twilight run on Friday night and duck race fund-raiser for the Kids Foundation.
On Saturday, an IronKids event was held, followed by a Superhero run, with the main Ironman event on Sunday.
“Ballarat has been impeccable. We’ve had incredible support from the City of Ballarat, the local community and all our partners.
“The men’s winner has already said he wants to come back next year – he gets invites from all around the world, so to say that means he really enjoyed himself.
“We’re really excited to see the event grow and have more athletes and more spectators next year.”
Mr Renn said the lake was the perfect spot for the swim, with the water clear and calm.
“The rowing course infrastructure makes it really easy – it’s like a giant swimming pool and a fantastic facility for a purpose event like this.”
Mr Renn thanked the Ballarat community for its support.
“With the run event there was a significant amount of road closures and disruptions to the community, but everyone was really supportive and understanding,” Mr Renn said.
“There was so much support for the athletes, with locals cheering them over the journey and challenge to get to the finish line – it just makes the event that much better.”
