The Ballarat trainer’s long-range plan to buy, target and get a horse to one of the Ballarat Cup meeting’s highlight races is almost complete.
Captain Crackerjak, which has the same maternal bloodlines as his older stablemate, will line up in Saturday’s Magic Millions Clockwise Classic, 1000m.
He is one of two hometown hopes in the $200,000 sprint, which is set for its third running on the Ballarat Turf Club’s feature day.
The event allows Victorian-based Magic Millions graduates a clockwise lead-up to the $2 million two-year-old classic on the Gold Coast in January.
Captain Crackerjak, a $25,000 purchase at the 2014 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sales, has had two trials at Ballarat in the clockwise direction and has drawn well in barrier two for jockey Nikita Beriman, who partners him on debut.
O’Sullivan said a vast ownership was involved in the horse, including BTC committeeman Tim
Porter.
