The young ruckman is expected to play as backup to former Richmond and Geelong big man Orren Stephenson, who has rejoined the Roosters for the upcoming season.
Marshall, who was not picked up in the AFL national or rookie drafts, said he was disappointed to miss out on selection to an AFL list, but was thrilled to earn a VFL spot.
“Obviously, it’s pretty disappointing to miss out on the draft this year, but I’m really looking forward to joining the Roosters,” Marshall said.
Marshall will play under the wing of veteran ruckman Orren Stephenson, who returned to the Roosters in October as a playing assistant coach.
According to Marshall, the benefits of working with Stephenson are already starting to show.
“He (Stephenson) has taught me different things,” Marshall said. “It’s been really good already and it’s just been a month, so I’m looking forward to spending the season with him.”
New Zealand-born Marshall, who stands at 199 centimetres,
moved from Portland to Ballarat at the start of 2014 in order to improve his football.
The result was an outstanding season, as Marshall played 17 games for the Rebels and represented Vic Country at the National Under-18 Championships.
He also managed a VFL appearance as the Roosters’ 23rd man against Geelong in August, as well as an invitation to October’s AFL Draft Combine.
