He carefully marks in a notebook how many toys he has made, with this year’s total of 163 to be donated to the Salvation Army.
However, this has been a slower year for Mr Rae, who has made up to 800 toys in previous years.
“I suffer from an incurable disease ... ‘sheditis’,” he said. “I am down at the shed seven days a week and everything revolves around what I am going to make.”
From toy trucks to chairs, he makes a variety of presents for local children.
Mr Rae said he was already preparing for Christmas 2015.
He said many local businesses had donated to his cause, with every item being built with free supplies.
In particular, he highlighted
G. Gay & Co Mitre 10, Robert Sim Building Supplies, Conroy’s Paint Place, AutoPro and Dulux, which, he said, had been very supportive of his hobby.
While the task helps to keep him busy, Mr Rae said he just hoped the children enjoyed what he made each year.
