The water park was the place to be on Friday as the mercury tipped 38 degrees, with children whizzing around the park while their parents watched from the shade.
Janette Thomas and her daughter Sienna, 5, spent a few hours at the park with their cousins.
“We came here because the kids can run around,” Ms Thomas said.
“Down here you don’t have to get in the pool (with them) ... the kids love it.”
Laura Hill and Jade Davis took their daughter, Addisyn Davis, 4, to the play park for the first time.
“This is the first time we’ve all been here,” Ms Hill said.
“We were considering going to Eureka (outdoor pool), but decided on here.”
Mr Davis said all public pools should incorporate a water play park element.
“It would be good if they had something like this at the Eureka pool,” he said.
“They have three pools, but they are just pools, nothing more.”
Ballarat reached a maximum of 38.2 degrees at 4.13pm on Friday.
At 2.30pm Saturday, the temperature was 36.1 with a cool change expected later in the day.
