The Navigators History Group planted 15 oak trees along Navigators Road and will soon erect a memorial board with the names of men from the region who enlisted during the Great War.
They plan to officially open the avenue on April 19, in conjunction with celebrations of the Anzac centenary.
But the group, who currently has 16 names for the honour board, are calling for further information which could lead to the names of more servicemen from the area.
Group member Michael Clarke said the Navigators region would have covered a larger area in the early 1900s than it does now, adding there would be names missing from the board.
“We have done very well to track down some of the names of those from the area who served,” Mr Clarke said.
“But there is no doubt there are many others which we are missing.
“So we’d love people to get in touch and provide any knowledge they may have which would help the memorial.”
The group is also trying to contact the descendants of those they already know of.
Established two years ago, the Navigators History Group decided to honour the servicemen because they had never been recognised before.
They received funding from the Moorabool Shire Council and raised other money through community fundraisers.
The group will hold a trivia night at the Navigators Community Hall on February 21 to raise more money.
