Choreographer Shermaine Heng, a Victorian College of the Arts masters student and Flare Dance Company co-artistic director, will take up an artist in residency in Ballarat, conducting workshops and working with community groups in the lead-up to a performance.
Breathe, Woman! will show the culmination of Ms Heng’s work in Ballarat.
She will talk to women of all ages and tell their story through dance, with some even participating in the dance.
The performance will be during Ballarat’s Cultural Diversity Week on March 20.
From Singapore and moving to Australia seven years ago, Ms Heng said she had her share of good and bad experiences when it came to accepting diversity.
She said this was an opportunity to embrace diversity and people’s differences through their stories.
The project, a collaboration between the VCE and Ballarat Regional Multicultral Council, will be launched at M.A.D.E on February 19 at 1pm.
