The Ballarat boys were seven-wicket winners over Mornington Peninsula 2 at Coburg City Oval and remain unbeaten heading into Thursday’s last preliminary game against Hamilton.
A quality bowling display set up the victory over Mornington Peninsula, which was bundled out for 108 in the 39th over.
Openers Ash McCafferty (3-21) and Daniel White (2-12) started the rot, before Steve Nicholson, Jason Knowles, Carman Mapatuna and Saman Jayantha all claimed one wicket apiece.
The run chase was never in doubt as Cole Roscholler (77) and Bobby Hind (21) put together a 62-run opening partnership before the Ballarat side passed the total three wickets down and batted its way to 5-148 by stumps.
Ballarat now sits second on the ladder – well clear of third-placed Ferntree Gully – and takes on Hamilton at Williamstown Cricket Ground on Thursday, where victory will assure a place in Friday’s final and a shot at promotion back into the provincial division for 2016.
