Thomas Michael Doyle, 76, entered the County Court dock on Tuesday to plead guilty to one count of unlawfully and indecently assaulting a girl under the age of 16.
The court heard Doyle's offending took place between 1961 and 1974 in various locations across Victoria, against the one victim.
Doyle, a pensioner from Brisbane, is staying in a Melbourne hotel, the court heard.
He had his bail extended to return to court on Thursday for a formal plea hearing.
