321 Learmonth Cider was awarded two gold medals at the Royal Melbourne Fine Food Awards last week.
Marilyn Cormie, from 321 Cider, said the two winning products – the 321 Learmonth Traditional Still Cider and the Methode Traditionnelle Cider Cuvee – beat stiff competition.
“The traditional cider, which is already an award-winning cider, did very well, adding gold to its swag of bronze and silver medals already won,” Ms Cormie said.
“And the Traditionnelle Cider Cuvee took out a gold medal in what was its first competition. This is a premium bottle-fermented cider, made in a similar way to champagne, which is the creme de la creme of cider.”
The Royal Melbourne Fine Food Awards are Australia’s premium fine food event, conducted by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria.
Judges said the still cider had “great aromatic definition, attractive weight and good flavours of spice, cloves and floral note”. And the cuvee had “subtle, complex aromatics with excellent balance”.
Ms Cormie said the team at 321 Cider was thrilled with the outcome, with the small-scale, familyowned business already proving itself against the big guns.
She said the cider was stocked in some of the country’s best restaurants, including Melbourne’s renowned Cutler & Co.
Ms Cormie said 321 Cider was committed to producing “real cider from real cider apples”.
The apples used in 321 Cider are grown at Spring Vale Farm in Learmonth.
