WHEN, oh when, will our city council get it right regarding our tourism information centre.
After 25-plus years of working in tourism, I have experience of just what our visitors require.
I have seen visitation rise from one day to four days visiting our beautiful city.
We have so much to offer, ranging from Sovereign Hill, the Art Gallery of Ballarat, ex-POW war memorial, Ballarat Botanical Gardens, Lake Wendouree, Tram Museum, Arch of Victory and the Avenue of Honour, just to mention a few of our attractions.
Our visitors are very important to our economy and they spend freely at petrol stations, restaurants, accommodation, retail shops, hotels and theatres.
I do wonder if the powers that be have ever visited small country
towns and taken notice of the wonderful information centres they have to promote their local attractions.
When locals cannot find a car park at the town hall, how on earth can a caravanner expect to?
My suggestion would be to locate an information centre at the civic hall site with toilets, decent coffee shops and other shops promoting local products and crafts. This area is easily accessible for caravanners, motorhomes and the railway station.
I plead with the council to use a little common sense and settle this situation in a sensible manner for once and all.
