However, he will not be in Red Devils' colours.
Stefan Nigro, 18, will play for the Victory in its National Premier Leagues Victoria 1 match today, returning back to where it all began.
One of Ballarat's soccer prodigies, Nigro played with Melbourne Victory in the 2014/15 Foxtel National Youth League season after crossing from NPLV side Port Melbourne.
He has played in both of their matches so far in the NPLV1 season, scoring one goal as a central midfielder.
Nigro said it would be a strange feeling as he prepared to play back at his home club where his career began.
"It's going to be surreal playing for Melbourne Victory against Ballarat, in Ballarat," he said.
"Being a Ballarat player not only do I know nearly all the boys I will be playing against, I have played with most of them.
"It's going to be great playing in front of family and friends."
Nigro played 32 games for the McDonalds Reds, including 15 senior appearances.
He has been training with the Melbourne Victory senior squad for the last week.
Saturday's match will be the only time Ballarat comes up against the powerhouse club this season, since both clubs compete in opposite sides of the competition.
Ballarat is coming off its first win of the league season last week, which followed its FFA Cup victory that finally saw it gain momentum after a slow start to the season.
Victory has secured two wins and a draw from its three matches this season.
Reds manager James Robinson said it was important his side treated approached the match as simply a normal league fixture.
"It's just another game we need to prepare well for," he said.
"They are a well-drilled side in a full time environment and that is the big difference.
"It's about keeping that momentum growing from the last couple of weeks."
