He was a 27-year-old accountant from Errard Street, Ballarat.
He sailed in October with the 8th Battalion, on the Benalla, first to Egypt and then to Gallipoli.
He was mortally wounded on July 28, 1915, suffering a shrapnel wound to the head. He was buried in Beach Cemetery at the southern end of Anzac Cove, just a short distance from
the grave of John Simpson – the man with the donkey.
Crocker’s brother Frederick (Tree No. 658) served with the 17th Battalion and was killed in action at Bullecourt on May 3, 1917.
He has no known grave and is one of the 10,885 Australians listed on the Australian Memorial at the Villers-Bretonneux in France.
He was 30 years of age.
